Investing in Prior Lake Parks & Community

The City of Prior Lake is a welcoming community known for its scenic parks, lakes, trails and open spaces that help residents stay active and connected to the outdoors.

With 15 lakes and 49 parks, the city offers a wide range of recreational opportunities that improve our community’s overall quality of life.

After years of heavy use, our parks and trails are in need of major repairs and upgrades. While they have been well cared for, most city parks have not been updated or improved since they were built decades ago. To ensure Prior Lake's parks and trails can continue meeting the needs of our growing community, the city began planning for the future of our recreational amenities in 2018.

After gathering input from residents, the city put forward a $60 million investment plan that reflects the community's priorities for improving its parks, trails and recreational programs for the next 20-plus years.

“Our parks and trails are the heart of Prior Lake, bringing people together and enhancing our quality of life. When we invest in our parks system, we’re investing in the well-being and future of our residents.”

-Mayor Kirt Briggs

In the months ahead, the city will continue engaging residents to ask for feedback and answer questions about the plan and how it should be implemented.

We encourage residents to connect with us and share their thoughts.

This website will be the central location for updates on the city’s park and trail system plan. Check back here regularly for more details on the challenges facing our parks and trails and the plan to address them.
